The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) is running three have a go events this spring and summer aimed at encouraging more women to consider careers in firefighting.
The events include a tour of the fire station and an opportunity for potential applicants to try physical and written tests similar to the ones used in recruitment and training. Firefighters and fitness advisors will also be on hand to offer advice and support.
RBFRS say they have no vacancies for whole-time firefighters right now, but they expect more opportunities in the next few months, adding:
“Although women make up a significant proportion of support and control roles, they are under-represented in operational roles and RBFRS would like more women to apply so that its workforce can better reflect the community it serves.”
These have a go events will be held at the Whitley Wood Training Centre, 270 Whitley Wood Road, Whitley, RG2 8FS from 10am until 4pm on Saturdays 27 April, 25 May and 29 June. There is limited capacity at the events, and to register interest please email your name and the date you wish to attend to [email protected].
